Proof Of Professionalism

The following comment is written by my TA, Carly Goruk, a Grade 5 teacher at Probe School, highlighting my professionalism and dedication during my PS I experience, reflected in my summative assessment.

Home Life Conditions

In instances where a student’s home life conditions were affecting their learning, I’ve treated this information with the utmost care. For example, if a student struggled due to challenges at home, I would focus on creating a supportive environment without disclosing personal details to others. When necessary, I collaborated with my TA and got school counsellors or administrators involved, sharing only what was relevant and always considering the student’s best interests. I plan to implement a 'Handling with Care' practice in my future classroom. This initiative will be introduced to parents and students at the start of the school year as a way to foster open communication and understanding. The practice will serve as a gentle reminder to inform the school when a student is having a rough day, ensuring that we, as educators, can be mindful of their feelings and provide extra support. The goal is to create a compassionate environment where students feel safe, valued, and uplifted, even on challenging days.

Suspension

After a student was suspended, I ensured I handled the situation with discretion. When other students or colleagues asked about the absence, I focused on maintaining the student’s privacy by redirecting the conversation to general classroom matters. I refrained from sharing any details, understanding that this information was confidential and sensitive.
