Introduction Letter - September 2024

 Dear Teacher Associate,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my gratitude for the opportunity to be your student teacher. I am in the fourth year of my BA/BEd Art/Art Education degree and I‘m an active individual who enjoys many outdoor activities such as golfing, skiing, hiking, and kayaking. I am passionate about Ringette and am still actively involved - playing for the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns team for my third season. In addition to playing for numerous years, I have also coached within the sport from a young age, encouraging an easy transition into wanting to teach, as a profession. Recently, my teammates and I coordinated a week-long development camp with both on-ice and off-ice activities for different age groups, which strengthened my skills of organization, adaptability, and teamwork - key elements I wish to incorporate into my teaching style to create a beneficial learning environment for all.

Balancing high-level sports with academics my whole life instilled in me a strong work ethic and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively. By consistently prioritizing my studies while excelling in sports, I gained important skills in time management, discipline, and goal-setting. My active participation in high-level community/school sports and community activities further enhanced my teamwork and leadership abilities, while graduating with honours with distinction in 2021 and achieving the Dean's list within my University career reflects my commitment to excellence.

Additionally, growing up with a mother who is also a teacher, provided me with helpful insight into the dedication needed to develop a supportive classroom that encourages critical thinking. Volunteering in her class allowed me to witness effective teaching practices firsthand and highlighted the importance of an engaging and inclusive atmosphere - crucial for student growth. Working in Calgary’s diverse school system, she focused on inclusivity by working with teams of staff to create specialized learning plans and access resources for students with learning disabilities or language barriers. Through this, she instilled in me the importance of having a strong commitment to meet each student's unique needs; promoting the greater good of the class.

Thank you for this opportunity to work with you. I am looking forward to deepening my understanding of managing classroom behaviours and connections with the children, as I believe that mastering these skills is essential for effective learning. I am excited to grow as an educator under your guidance and am appreciative of your support.

Best,

Alexandra Reeve
