Professional Growth Plan Goals

The ATA Professional Growth Plan (PGP) supports teachers in pursuing career-long learning by setting self-directed, reflective goals aligned with the Teaching Quality Standard (TQS). Focused on enhancing teaching practices and improving student outcomes, PGP goals encourage continuous development, collaboration, and alignment with inclusive and effective teaching strategies.

Professional Goal #1 (2024)

Q: “What knowledge or skills related to your work as a teacher or school leader do you want to develop?”

A: I want to develop stronger time management and organizational skills to balance lesson planning, assessment, and classroom responsibilities more effectively. By improving in these areas, I can ensure that I’m well-prepared, meet deadlines consistently, and create a smoother workflow that benefits both my students and colleagues.

Q: Which competencies in the TQS or LQS are linked to your goal?

A: Improving my time management and organizational skills aligns with the TQS competencies of fostering effective relationships, engaging in career-long learning, and demonstrating a professional body of knowledge, as these skills support well-structured lessons and collaboration. It also ties to the LQS competencies of ensuring effective management and leading a learning community, enabling me to balance responsibilities and support school goals efficiently.

Strategies, Approximate Timelines and Resources

A: To meet my goal of improving time management and organizational skills, I will use strategies like creating detailed weekly plans and prioritizing tasks with tools like planners or apps such as Google Calendar. I will also participate in professional development workshops focused on organizational strategies and time management. I will also start and finish reading "Off The Clock" by Laura Vanderkamp, which is a tool to help me fins ways to feel less busy and get more done. These activities will take place throughout the school year, at home after school and in the summers with weekly reflection and adjustments. To succeed, I will access reliable planning tools, mentorship from experienced colleagues, and feedback from my peers and supervisor's to track progress and refine my approach.

Indicators of Progress or Completion

A: I will measure progress by tracking how consistently I adhere to my weekly plans and complete tasks within set deadlines. Regular reflections on my use of time and organization, as well as feedback from colleagues or supervisors, will help gauge improvement. I will know I’ve achieved my goal when I can efficiently manage lesson planning, assessments, and responsibilities without feeling overwhelmed.
